This Workplace Code of Conduct (“Code”) establishes the principles and expectations for professional conduct and ethical behavior for all associates of, and contributors to, The World Ethical Data Foundation (WEDF). By adhering to this Code, we foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful work environment that aligns with our purpose, beliefs and values. Our purpose is to build a world in which technological progress serves humanity because it’s governed by ethics that bring us closer together. Our belief is that protecting international collaboration can build consensus on how we create technologies that benefit humanity.
1. Scope and applicability
This Code applies to all employees, advisors and associates working under the banner of WEDF, regardless of their position or location. Henceforth these are stated as “associates”. Contractors and temporary staff are also expected to adhere to this Code while working for or on behalf of the organisation. Our governance policies are in development. Where differences in legal terms, clauses or standards may apply, European law supersedes any others.
2. Core values and principles
- Transparency: We value privacy and protection as enablers of access to ideas and discussion for all.
- Alignment: We encourage diverse opinion in good faith, appreciate differences and find common ground.
- Realisation: We demonstrate solutions that prioritise human interests and illuminate new ways to make change.
- Independence: We value our independence and strive to remain impartial to commercial and political influences.
3. Professionalism
Associates are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. This includes punctuality, reliability, and commitment to delivering high-quality work. WEDF has embed practices, set out by the organisation's policies, that prevent unethical and/or illegal behavior by associates, partners or suppliers. They are available for public reference and include, but not exclusively:

- Grievance Procedure
- Disciplinary Procedure
4. Respect and inclusion
We value diversity and are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all associates feel valued and respected. Harassment, discrimination, or any form of bullying will not be tolerated. We offer a grievance procedure for any associate who wishes to pursue a related matter.
5. Integrity and ethics
Associates must act with integrity and uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional interactions. This includes avoiding conflicts of interest and acting in the best interests of the organisation.
6. Technology and social media usage
WEDF technology, social media and digital platforms of any kind should be used responsibly and in accordance with organisation policies.
Confidential information must not be shared online or through social media platforms.
7. Health and safety
Associates must comply with all health and safety regulations and report any hazards or unsafe conditions. A commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment is the responsibility of every employee.
8. Conflict resolution
Any workplace conflicts should be resolved in a professional and respectful manner. Associates are encouraged to review our existing policies which can be found here and seek the assistance of senior team members if needed.
9. Reporting mechanisms
Associates are encouraged to report any unethical behavior or violations of this Code or the policies referenced above.
The WEDF is committed to protecting the anonymity and safety of those who report misconduct.
By adhering to this Code, associates contribute to the success and reputation of WEDF. Failure to comply with this Code may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of association.
